Boiler or we can say, the steam boiler is an essential part of the thermal power plant. The boiler is used to provide steam to turbine or to our process requirements, means we can use the steam of boiler wherever is needed in the process like- the steam given by boiler in paper industry can be used for dry the paper or similarly the steam of boiler can be used in various industrial applications according to process requirements.
Definition of Boiler
The Definition of Boiler may also be clear from its name. The boiler is made from a word boil that means something boils in the boiler. the boiler is basically a closed vessel into which water is heated until the water is converted into steam at required pressure and temperature. This is the most basic definition of the boiler.
Working Principle of Boiler
Working Principle of the boiler is also very simple and easy to understand. We have seen earlier that boiler is a closed vessel into which water is heated and stored. Fuel is burnt in the furnace. Different types of fuels are used in boiler name as – coal, rice husk, bagasse and many more. The Commonly used fuel in the boiler is coal, The Fuel selection for boiler depends on the calorific value (CV) of the fuel. The fuel is burnt in a furnace and hot gases are produced. These hot gases come in contact with water vessel where the heat of these hot gases transfer to the water and consequently steam is produced in the boiler. This steam is then piped to fulfill our process requirements of steam.
There are many different types of boiler utilized for different purposes like running a production unit, sterilizing equipment, sanitizing some area, to warm up the surroundings etc.
The boiler is categorized into two different categories
Fire Tube Boiler
Water tube boiler
In Fire tube boiler, Fire or hot gases passes through the boiler tubes and water passes outside the boiler tubes.
In water Tube boiler, Water passes through the boiler tubes and hot gases passes outside the boiler tubes.
