Question 1. The reason for Jacking in bridge works?
Answer: The other name for bridge jacking is structural lifting operations. As the name indicates, the structural components of the bridge are incrementally lifted and each component is individually replaced or repaired.
This kind of lifting operation is performed and necessary to ensure the structural authenticity of the bridge that repairs are completed.
In the lifting operation, hydraulic systems are used for stressing cables, replacing bearings and beams, and replacing trusses.

Shuttering: Shuttering is the formwork which supports the vertical surface
Centering: Centering is the formwork which supports the horizontal surface such as slab bottom, beam.
Staging – Materials such as pipes, jacks, wooden ballies, props which support both shuttering & centering are known as Staging.
Question 5. What is the difference between highway pavement and local road?
Answer: Before difference, we will see what is road pavement?
The road pavement is the actual surface on which the vehicles will travel. Its purpose is to provide friction for the vehicles and to transfer normal stresses to the underlying soils.
The Highway pavements are constructed based on the IRC recommendations. It has a correct pavement width, shift, superelevation etc. it is capable to withstand high vehicle load, provide limited friction on the vehicle, and have the flexibility to withstand load without any damage. But the local roads are having less importance so it doesn’t satisfy all requirements.
