A solenoid valve is used to operate the pneumatic ball valve, butterfly valve or a globe valve.
A solenoid is a simple electromagnetic device that converts electrical energy directly into linear mechanical motion, but it has a very short stroke (length of movement). The solenoid valve is an important part of a pneumatic control system.
The solenoid valve is widely used to control a pneumatic power cylinder in various industries like- power plant, paper industry, sugar industry, chemicals & pharmaceuticals etc. It is very necessary to know the functions of a solenoid valve for an engineer or a technician.
A solenoid valve is an electromechanically operated valve. In the case of a two-port valve the flow is switched on or off; in the case of a three-port valve, the outflow is switched between the two outlet ports.
How it Works?
the solenoid valve has a single input and two outputs. Air is given at input port and when the coil is not energized air extracted from one output end and when the coil is energized air extracted from another output end. The solenoid is normally used for opening and closing of different types of control valves. One output air is used for closing the valves and other output air is used for opening the valves.
A solenoid valve has two main parts: the solenoid (coil) and the valve. The solenoid converts electrical energy into mechanical Linear motion which, in turn, opens or closes the valve mechanically. A spring is there in solenoid valve when supply is given to coil it gets energized and spring moves which open or closes the valve mechanically.
Solenoid converts electrical energy into mechanical energy and this energy is used to operate a mechanical valve that is to open, close or to adjust in a position.
In Solenoid Valve, SOV Single Coil Supply or Double Coil Supply is used according to the applications
Single Coil Supply:
In this type of SOV, a single coil is used, when the coil is energized, it opens the valve and when the coil is de-energized, it closes the valve.
Double Coil SOV
In the double coil SOV, two coils are used to control the valve. One coil is used to energize the coil and the second coil is used to de-energized the coil.
